Blacksburg!

The Wolfe family is still reeling from a great few days down in Blacksburg! It's always a fun time visiting the burg but this trip was even more special as Mackenzie and Isla's Great-PopPop, G-G, Aunt Denise, and Uncle John were also there visiting! We of course got to spend some nice time with Uncle Vince and cousins Sammy and Tyler! Instead of staying at MomMom and PopPop's house like usual, we had the special treat of staying at Aunt Kristin & Uncle Matt's! Yes, that means there were 4 toddlers all under one roof  and man did we have a BLAST! We got to visit the duck pond, go to a Hokie tailgate, and celebrate MomMom and PopPop's birthdays. We are still talking about how much fun we had and can't wait for our next trip down!

Waiting for Great-PopPop and GG to arrive!

This kid is the coolest!

MomMom's flowers smell soooo good!

Isla Marie- 12 months

Isla had her one year appointment last week and I wanted to write a quick post about it for our "baby blog/book" record.

Isla is weighing in at 17 lbs. 10 oz (3rd percentile) and 27.5 inches (10th percentile) with her head circumstance in the 5th percentile. Yup, she is a little one, but we've known that since day one. The doctor is not worried about her being small as she is a good eater, has somewhat stayed on her curve, and well, her sister is tiny too. Isla has also been walking for a couple weeks and is now 100% on two feet, no more crawling! She absolutely loves this new skill and the ability to explore even more! She is now saying mama, dada, more, and dog.  She is still the happiest little girl with her sweet smile and adorable dimple. Her new favorite thing is to give everyone hugs. She randomly throws her arms around your neck and gives  you the best and strongest hugs. The cutest hug session was when she tackled her sister in the bathtub in order to get a few sweet hugs in. Mackenzie loved it too as she had a huge smile on her face.  Toddler-hood is definitely off to a great start!

We went to a indoor playground on Isla's birthday, she loved it!

Playing :-)

We also celebrated her big day with ice cream!

They loved it!

Passed out from all the excitement

Isla went down the slide with her big sis!

They are crazy!

She was going a little too slow for Zie's liking so mommy gave her a quick lift!

Happy Birthday, Isla!

September 18, 2013

Isla Marie,

I honestly can’t believe I am sitting here writing your first birthday letter. It feels like just yesterday that your daddy, sister, and I were excitedly preparing for your arrival. I want to start off by telling you a story that my mother told me the night before my wedding day. I too am a second child, and when she was pregnant with me she asked her mother how her heart could possibly be big enough to love another child as deeply and devotedly as she had her first. Her mother’s response was that her heart would continue to grow and expand with each child. My mother continued on to tell me that her heart did just that, and as her family grew so did her heart.  At the time this story was told, I walked away with the surface message, which was that my mother loved me and my brother and sister dearly.  What I didn't realize at the time was that I didn't understand the true lesson she was teaching me that night, until I became pregnant with you.

Like your MomMom, I too questioned how I could equally love and protect not just one child but now two. I received my answer the day you were born. I learned more about myself in those few hours than I had in my 28 years. I learned that there are no limits on the human heart. That love is bigger than all of us and the depth in which it goes will never be known or maybe even understood. That my heart that day didn't expand for you because you were already a part of it long before you were born. You just made it become more alive. I knew the minute you were placed upon my chest, that I would spend my entire life loving, protecting, nurturing, and guiding you through yours. That your father and I will be there to love you, support you, raise you up when you have succeeded, and pick you up when you have fallen. That you sister will be there to be your very best friend, confidant, and partner in crime.

Like me, you may not understand the true lesson that is presented in this letter. But one day, when you have children of your own, I hope you will look back upon it and be reminded that a parent's love knows no end. Thank you for infecting us with your precious smile, for creating a life time bond with your sister, and for teaching us that every day is full of beautiful moments.

Happy 1st Birthday, Isla. We love you to the moon and back!

Love,

Mommy
